About SA Home Doctor

Published 27 October 2026 by SA Home Doctor

We are a booking and coordination platform. The doctor who comes to you is an independent practitioner registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa, working under their own practice number.

Who we are

SA Home Doctor, also known as South Africa Home Doctor, arranges visits by doctors to homes, holiday rentals, guesthouses and hotels in Cape Town. We take the request, find a doctor who covers the address and keep you informed until the visit has happened. We do not practise medicine ourselves.

Every doctor who visits through us is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and runs an independent practice. The consultation is between you and that doctor. The doctor sets the fee, tells you what it is before coming out, and bills you under their own practice number, which is printed on the invoice you can give to a medical aid or a travel insurer.

The franchise, in plain words

Doctors join SA Home Doctor under a franchise agreement. Each one keeps their own practice, their own clinical records and every medical decision. What they take from us is the name, the request line and the coordination work behind it, and they pay the platform a franchise royalty for that under a written contract.

Two consequences matter to you. We never pay anyone to send us patients. And a request is never steered towards one doctor rather than another because of what that doctor brings in: it goes to the doctors who cover your area.

Languages and night calls

Doctors consult in English and Afrikaans. You can write to our WhatsApp line in another language; the assistant that answers will handle the practical details in your language and will tell you clearly that the consultation itself takes place in English or Afrikaans.

A doctor is on call at night, not only during the day.

How a request works

You contact us first, on WhatsApp at southafricahomedoctor.com/wa or through the request form on our home page. We do not send unsolicited messages to anyone.

  1. We ask where you are staying and whether the visit is for an adult or a child, then check that a doctor covers that address.
  2. Before we process anything about your health, we ask for your explicit consent, as the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) requires. Our privacy notice sets out what that consent covers.
  3. The request is offered to the doctors on duty in your area. Once one accepts, we let you know and the doctor contacts you directly.
  4. The doctor tells you the fee before setting out. You pay the doctor, not us, and receive an invoice for your insurer.
  5. The day after the visit, our WhatsApp assistant asks how you are, and if you feel worse, your doctor is told.

Our WhatsApp assistant deals with logistics: the address, the timing, who is coming. It does not diagnose and it never discusses fees, because both belong to the doctor. If a message describes an emergency, the reply gives the numbers to call, whether or not you have given consent.

What we do not do

Some limits are worth stating outright, because they shape what you can expect from us.

How we write this website

The pages on this website are written with the help of AI, under rules we set and enforce before anything is published. We say so because you are entitled to know how a health-related page was made.

Every local fact has to come from an official source. When one of our guides tells you something about Cape Town, a South African law or a public health body, it links to the official page it relies on, and we check that the link works and that the page really says what we wrote. Our pages contain no prices, no medicine doses and no brand names of medicines.

Before publication, each page goes through automated checks. They look for missing sources, prices, doses, competitors' names, claims of superiority and a missing emergency notice. Two separate AI reviewers then read the page looking for errors, unsupported claims and anything that could mislead. A page that fails is rewritten or dropped.

Doctors who work with us are asked to read our pages. When a doctor has read a page and confirmed it, that page names the doctor. A page that names no doctor has not yet been read by one, and we prefer to show that rather than hide it.

If you spot a mistake, please tell us by email at [email protected] or on WhatsApp. We correct factual errors, and the date on a page changes only when its text does.

🚨 Emergencies

SA Home Doctor is not an emergency service. In a medical emergency, call 10177 for an ambulance or 112 from a mobile phone. Do not wait for a reply from us.
